Donna Louise (Thissell) Cluver lost her 5-year battle with lung cancer on Saturday, July 25, 2020. Donna was born March 4, 1946 to Leland C. and Olive G. Thissell in Eureka. She attended Eureka High and after graduating in 1964 she married Edward Cluver.

She is survived by two children — Terri (Cluver) Chandler (husband Ari) and Andrew Cluver (wife Jen); and grandchildren, Tylene Musser (husband Brad Bazor), Adam Cluver, Mackinzie Cluver, Tyler Ramsey, Austin Johnson, Taylor Johnson and Carter Johnson. She is preceded in death by her parents  and brothers LeRoy and Charles. She is survived by brothers Joseph (wife Pat), Ronald, Gary (husband Trev), Raymond and Denny (wife Sue) as well as two sisters-in-law Virginia Thissell-Carter and Sara Thissell as well numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

When Donna’s children were young, she was very involved in their activities including volunteering in the school classrooms, Girl Scout Troop Leader, Cub Scout Troop Mom, Youth Football volunteer Secretary and Treasurer – in charge of the gift wrap booth and the concession stand at the football games. Donna attended every event her children had. Once they were grown, she attended College of the Redwoods and got her AA degree, she then worked at JC Penney in Eureka until it closed, and then at Walgreen’s. After retiring from Walgreens, she found a passion for quilting and never looked back. Even through five years of cancer treatments, she continued to quilt and attend quilting retreats (it is hard to count how many quilts she made) and travel to places she had always wanted to see.

Her family is thankful for the last five years they have had with her, she will be missed greatly. The family would like to thank Dr. Luw, Dr. Hardy, along with all of the nursing staff at St. Joseph Hospital’s Oncology Departments and Humboldt County Hospice Department for all of the help and support they provided. The family will not be holding a celebration of Donna’s life until everyone can be together to celebrate her life.
