Jason Todd Garrett, born Jan. 30, 1987, was taken from us suddenly on Feb. 13, 2020.

Jason loved all things found in nature and found peace outside amongst the astounding redwoods of southern Humboldt County. He was selfless with his time and resources he would help anyone with anything with or without being asked to do so. Recently he spent a large portion of the last few years helping his grandparents renovate, clean and prepare their property to be sold. He took great pride in helping his family any way he could.

Jason had lots of loves in his life – ranging from family, girlfriends, hobbies, jobs to pets – but none truly were as loved as his mother, who he cherished more than any other being or thing in the world. Although some came close, none had the bond of mother and son to him. He was never shy to say he was a “madre’s boy.” Jason and his mother were blessed to have spent the last few years together helping their family with the property.

Jason had a strong bond with both of his brothers – one of them always saying “I could never in my life laugh so hard all night as I did growing up and sharing a room with Jason.” They both always had a best friend in him growing up.

Jason couldn’t wait to return to southern Humboldt, although he loved his time with his family his job there was done and he looked forward to the next adventure and to the next person he could help. In Garberville and the surrounding areas he and his beloved dog, Leonard, would be seen earning a living working in land management, brush clearing, or as he called it resource harvesting (cutting and selling firewood).

Jason was a fun-loving, gentle soul who was fulfilled by doing for others. It is such a loss to his family, friends, dog and community to have had him taken so suddenly at the young age of only 33. He was loved and loved so deeply by so many and will forever be missed.

He is survived by his loving mother, brothers, uncles, grandparents, cousins and of course Leonard, his dog.

All of Jason’s friends and loved ones are invited to his celebration of life, to share stories and celebrate his wonderful life. It will be held at the Benbow Lake State Recreation Area on Saturday the 29th at 1 p.m. Come early.
