On August 14, 1944, in Astoria, Oregon, Emil & Bessie Clausen introduced their daughter Karen Grace to the world and on September 11, 2020, Karen Grace Jacobsen peacefully passed away. She was a long- time resident of Fortuna.

Coming from Astoria, Oregon, Karen moved with her family to Humboldt County when she was 5 years old where the Clausen family made their home in Fortuna.

She had many stories about her childhood, but the ones that were continuously mentioned were the summers she spent with her grandparents in Clatskanie, Oregon and her grandparents in Fort Bragg.

In 1962, Karen married Don Jacobsen Jr., her high school sweetheart, the love of her life, and without a doubt, her best friend. During their marriage they were blessed to bring into this world two beautiful daughters, Kim and Sandy. Their extraordinary love story lasted for 57 glorious and adventurous years.

In 1973, Karen started work in the banking industry at the Fortuna Branch of Bank of America. After her retirement in early 1999, she spent much of her time with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their school functions and sporting events. She had fun with family backyard BBQ’s, birthday parties and holidays.

Karen was a selfless person where her thoughts and actions were always geared toward others. If there were a grander definition of the word “love” that would be how she felt about her family. One of her more celebrated roles in life, besides being a wife and mother, was her role as “Nana.” She lived by the quote, “Nana’s the name, spoilin’s the game.” Besides spending time with family and friends (especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren), she enjoyed painting, cooking and traveling.

Karen is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Don Jacobsen Jr., her two daughters and their husbands, Kim (Tom) Wilson and Sandy (Troy) Wells, her six wonderful grandchildren, Brandon, Jacob, Zachary, Christopher, Emma and Sarah, along with two adorable great-grandsons, Carson and Carter. She is also survived by her brother, Andrew Clausen, her sister Grace Tufi, sisters-in-law, Martha Clausen and Louise Jenkins as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Karen also leaves her special friends, Melanie Gorman, Della Bennett and Gayle Steele. She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Bessie Clausen and her brother Emil Clausen.

There will be a private service for family only.

Karen will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family would love for everyone to remember her by spending time with those who you love and cherish.
