Stevan Todd Couch was born November 27, 1959, in Winnemucca. He was raised by his parents, Glenn Jr. and Florence [Martial] Couch, and was the youngest of eight siblings.

Steve held a lifelong passion for sports, and martial arts. He fought in four professional kickboxing matches and held a brown belt in Tai Kwon Do. He was a local phenom in basketball for the Lowry High School Buckaroos and was recognized for his skills by earning a scholarship to the University of Nevada Reno. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury in college that resulted in him relocating to Humboldt County, California, where his parents were living.

He married Bonnie Bacchetti in 1985, and they had two sons: Joseph Perry Couch who was born in 1987 and Timothy Wade Couch who was born in 1991.

Steve had an exceptionally strong work ethic and spent many years in the field of construction. He played a role in building the Eureka library, parts of the HSU campus, and many other significant buildings throughout Humboldt County. He eventually became the maintenance manager at the Humboldt Plaza apartments, where he worked for 14 years before a bout with cancer forced an ending to his career.

Steve put every ounce of himself into raising his boys. He cheered them on as they played sports all year round, never missing a game for either one of them. He could be heard a mile away from the sidelines at their football games and was by far the biggest fan Arcata High had experienced during Timmy’s years playing basketball. Not only was he a great father, Steve was also a father figure, mentor, and coach to their many friends, providing support whenever needed throughout the community. His great energy, passion, and support for the kids was welcomed by parents and families throughout the community.

Stevan had many close friends, both locally in Humboldt County (Arcata), and back home in Humboldt County, Nevada (Winnemucca). He enjoyed spending time with Dennis Workman and their Golf/Racing crew, and also his occasional visits/phone calls with his best friends Brent Marcuerquiaga, and Tim Billingsley.

Steve was a big tough man on the outside, with a heart of pure gold on the inside. Watching his boys grow into men and become great fathers to his grandchildren was the light of his life.

Stevan passed away peacefully in his home on August 21, 2020, with his sons by his side. Stevan is survived by his two sons, Joey and Timmy, brothers Glenn III (Mercedes), Rodger Wade (Suzanne), and Tommy Couch (Vicky), sisters Andrea Schatz, Toni Ryan, and Glennda Couch-Carlberg (Carl), his grandchildren Eliana, Nathan, Titan Couch, and Charlotte Klein, his nieces and nephews, former wife Bonnie Couch, his close friends, and many “step” sons (the boys friends). Stevan is preceded in death by his sister Janet Williams, nephew Jeffrey Wade, and his beloved parents.
