Mary Monica McMahon
Nov. 12, 1937 - Sept. 1, 2023

Mary McMahon was born on November 12, 1937, in Ft. Bragg, and passed away on September 1, 2023 in Eureka. She was preceded in death by her sisters Peggy Berrettini, Colleen Roy, Mariah Beccaria, and brother Tom McMahon.

Mary’s early years were spent on the family’s property in Juan Creek, located between Rockport and Westport in Mendocino County where the family ran a store, bar, and guest cabins while the kids enjoyed the property & beach. Upon her father’s death at a very early age, Mary moved to San Francisco to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Colleen ane Joe Roy, to attend high school and nursing school. Following graduation, she worked as a nurse in hospitals in San Francisco and Santa Monica, and later in medical offices in San Francisco and Eureka.

Mary lived in Cutten near Murphy’s Market for the past 25 years. After retiring from working at a doctor’s office on Harris Street about 20 years ago, she managed the eight-unit apartment building she lived in. 

Prior to the passing of two of her sisters, Mariah & Colleen, she loved visiting Mariah’s small ranch in Freshwater, where they had sheep, a horse, peacocks, and a number of dog’. Mary loved all animals.

She did take some painting/art classes in town. Mary was a talented artist who painted many beautiful pictures. She also loved to study nature.

A small family gathering will be held on Sunday, September 24, in Juan Creek.
