1. Broadway Animal Hospital Digital Monument Sign Location: 3700 Broadway; APN: 019-231-002 Project: Creative Sign Permit SGNC-23-1

The Broadway Animal Hospital wants to replace their old sign with a new digital sign. The new sign will be taller and bigger than what is allowed by the city’s sign regulations. They need a special permit to have the new sign. The staff recommends holding a public hearing and approving the project with certain conditions. The new sign will match the design of the hospital’s recently renovated building and will have a digital display. It will be 14 feet tall and will include a blue roof and blue support posts. The sign will have the words “Broadway Animal Hospital” and will also include a silhouette of a cat and dog with a heartbeat symbol. The sign will be made with different materials like wood, aluminum, and asphalt shingles. The proposed sign is unique and has a high level of creativity compared to other signs in the area. The staff also determined that the project is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act. The public will have a chance to provide their input on the project before a final decision is made.

… or, as a sea shanty!

(Verse 1)
In Eureka town, along Broadway’s way,
A new sign proposal made its stay,
Geoff Wills and Allpoints Advertising,
Seeking approval from the committee.

(Chorus)
Oh, the Broadway Animal Hospital sign,
A digital monument so fine,
With deviations from height and area,
Will it be approved, we’ll soon see.

(Verse 2)
The proposal includes a LED-lit board,
With “Broadway Animal Hospital” carefully restored,
A cat and a dog silhouette on display,
And a blue truss roof to match the new hallway.

(Chorus)
Oh, the Broadway Animal Hospital sign,
A digital monument so fine,
With deviations from height and area,
Will it be approved, we’ll soon see.

(Verse 3)
Surrounded by homes and businesses diverse,
A sign that would surely be averse,
But the applicant designed with care,
Materials and textures beyond compare.

(Chorus)
Oh, the Broadway Animal Hospital sign,
A digital monument so fine,
With deviations from height and area,
Will it be approved, we’ll soon see.

(Verse 4)
The regulations were taken into account,
A Creative Sign Permit was the paramount,
Exempt from CEQA, they pursued,
A sign that would impress and include.

(Chorus)
Oh, the Broadway Animal Hospital sign,
A digital monument so fine,
With deviations from height and area,
Will it be approved, we’ll soon see.

(Bridge)
A public hearing will soon take place,
To discuss the sign’s aesthetic grace,
And if the resolution finds it worthy,
The Broadway Animal Hospital sign will be seen.

(Chorus)
Oh, the Broadway Animal Hospital sign,
A digital monument so fine,
With deviations from height and area,
Will it be approved, we’ll soon see.

(Outro)
So we wait for the committee’s decision,
On this sign that seeks their permission,
The Broadway Animal Hospital sign,
Will it stand tall for all to admire.
