Yes. It’s time we acknowledge the true cost of our cheap power. We need to take thoughtful steps to reduce the amount of electricity we use so it will be more and more feasible to transition our county—to clean and innovative energy. (The excessive electricity tax was slightly less complicated in Arcata because of a more uniform consumer base and an existing tax which formed the basis for the excessive electricity tax.) I look forward to working with local residents and businesses to craft a reasonable and fair excessive electricity tax. These efforts can broaden local alternative energy entrepreneurship, as we all take steps toward reducing our fossil fuel dependence in Humboldt County.
