Humboldt County consistently leans towards the Democratic party, a trend that has persisted for years. In the past, I leveraged this awareness to support third parties, aiming to amplify their recognition by voting for my convictions. However, this election presents a notable difference. Despite reservations about certain actions and affiliations within the Democratic party, I perceive them as more accommodating to dissenting voices compared to the Republicans. The GOP has a history of suppressing opposition to Donald Trump during his presidency and impeding promotions in the Armed Forces. Recognizing the imperfections of the Democrats, I find them to be the preferable choice in this scenario. While they may not be flawless, they stand as a better alternative, earning my vote. I do hope for the implementation of ranked choice voting in the future, allowing third parties a chance at viability.
