Petroleum Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Eureka at around 7:12 p.m. yesterday.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per nrc report " CALLER STATED FISHING VESSEL ELLY WAS BEING OPERATED BY THREE OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THE BOAT STARTING TAKING ON WATER DUE TO UNKNOWN CAUSES.
THERE WAS A RELEASE OF UNKNOWN OIL AND ONE INJURY REPORTED."

REMEDIAL ACTIONS
ONE PERSON WAS TAKEN TO ST JOSEPH'S HOSPITAL WITH HEAD LACERATIONS, COAST GUARD MSD WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT.

This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the second petroleum spill in the county overall.
