Petroleum Incident in Carlotta

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a utilities/substation in Carlotta at around 3 a.m. today.

About one gallon of a substance described as “oil - mineral oil type, non pcb” was released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Pole mounted transformer failed causing the release, material flowed onto soil, contractor is handling the containment and clean up.

This was the third hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Carlotta area this year and the 14th petroleum spill in the county overall.
