Sewage Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Eureka at around 11:26 a.m. today.

About 80 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

A sewer main blockage occurred at the listed location resulting in a sewage overflow from a manhole cover. The Humboldt Community Services District responded to the scene, cleared the blockage, and completed a cleanup without incident. No waterways were impacted.

This was the sixth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the third sewage spill in the county overall.
