Petroleum Incident in Arcata

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a sanctuary in Arcata at around 2:19 p.m. today.

Less than one gallon of a substance described as “unknown vehicle oil” was released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP states due to a vehicle accident a release of less than one gallon of unknown vehicle oils spilled onto asphalt and dirt area that traveled into the Arcata marsh sanctuary. Released is stopped but not contained with waterways impacted (Arcata Marsh Sanctuary).

This was the seventh hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Arcata area this year and the 45th petroleum spill in the county overall.
