Petroleum Incident in Fortuna

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Fortuna at around 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 5.

About five gallons of a substance described as “hydraulic fluid” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP states that approx. 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid were released onto the road from the dump truck due to mechanical error, the truck company cleaned up the release but did not recover it all, there is more material on-site and flowing into the storm drain.

This was the third hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Fortuna area this year and the 16th petroleum spill in the county overall.
