Sewage Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Eureka at around 10:46 a.m. today.

About 1,200 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Reporting party states a sewer pressure main line has a leak causing the release of 1,200 gallons of sewage. The release is impacting the asphalt, vegetation, and a storm drain that leads into Humboldt Bay. The release is stopped and contained. RP is conducting repairs and clean up.

This was the 14th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 14th sewage spill in the county overall.
