An Evening with Betty
St. Bernard High School Gymnasium
An Evening with Betty’ is a community fundraiser with a simple mission: to raise funds for the operations of the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center and Betty’s street outreach. Come hear local advocate-for-the-homeless Betty Chinn share stories about her Outreach work with our local homeless population, as well as the successes of the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center.
Betty’s street outreach work continually expands beyond simply feeding hungry people. She provides daily showers, clean clothing, encouragement, and transportation for homeless children so they may lead ‘normal’ lives at school, and break the cycle of homelessness. She continually connects churches and community groups with her mission to help homeless families get back on their feet, and into housing. The list goes on and on. Betty changes lives daily, one person at a time.
The Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center has immeasurably impacted Humboldt County, as the Day Center provides the homeless a learning center, transitional housing, children’s programs, case management, a commercial kitchen, and stabilization services, among many other support programs. The goal for Betty and her staff is always to get people off of the street and back into society. All funding for Betty’s Day Center comes in the form of community donations and grants.
This fundraising event will take place at St. Bernard’s High School Gymnasium at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15. Come support Betty and her staff so they may continue to provide much-needed services to adults and children that are struggling to be a part of our community. Learn about the programs that are offered at her Day Center, while enjoying a delicious dinner provided by Rita’s.
