Barrel Aged Mess

The Local Cider Bar

For our second night of Humboldt Beer Week we are going with all things Barrel aged! Something about putting beers in barrels just makes everything right in the world. We have 11, possibly more world class barrel aged beers going on tap at 4pm at The Local on Tuesday the 7th. Don’t miss out on all these amazing comples beers!

The Bruery Bourbon Barrel Aged Smoking Wood 13%abv

Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

Mad river: Bourbon Barrel Quad style: quadrupal 11.4%abv
Envisaged in celebration of our 24 years of innovative craft brewing, our Belgian Style Quadruppel is a deep chestnut in color with a dense and creamy tan head. Zealous aromas of banana and clove with subdued notes of alcohol arouse the senses in anticipation. Ravishing flavors of rum soaked fruitcake drizzled with bananas foster sauce envelope the palate with a medium body and a mildly spicy hop and sweet caramel finish.Aged for 8 months

Eel river: Stop Collaborate and Listen… style: vanilla eisbier 13%
Brewed for The Local’s second year anniversary. THIS BEER WAS BREWED, ICED, BLENDED, AND Bourbon BARREL AGED WITH VANILLA BEANS

Almanac: Pumpkin Barleywine style: American baleywine 12% abv
This is a beer made with real pumpkins. We hand-roasted over 500lbs of heirloom pumpkins from La Tercera Farms in Bodega Bay. The caramelized gourds were then added to our velvety American Barleywine and aged in brandy barrels for a year. Finally, we blended the barrel-aged beer with freshly brewed ale and added a delicate hint of pumpkin pie spices to round out this decadent autumn sipper.

Redwood Curtain: Oak Aged IGA style: golden ale 6.8% abv
Amber/Caramel color, malt forward followed by mild hop flavors in the mid mouth, complex malt finish with long yet crisp clean back palate. Brewed with Gambrinus Pale malt, Munich malt, Perle and East Kent Goldings and our proprietary English Ale yeast strain aged in oak barrels

Allagash: golden Brett Stylr: American wild ale 7.2% abv
Golden Brett is a dark golden colored beer, brewed with Victory, 2-Row and Red Wheat malt. It was lightly hopped with a blend of Northern Brewer and Simcoe hops. The beer started it’s primary fermentation in a stainless tank and finished fermentation in a 800 gallon oak foudre. The finished beer has fruity nose and flavors of citrus, apricot and bread crust. The mild tartness of the beer gives way to a long, clean finish.

BFM: Abbaye Bon Chien 2013 style: sour/ wild ale 11% abv
Barrel aged in 9 different types of barrels

Deschutes: Mirror Mirror style: barleywine 11% abv

Reserve Series romance all began with our first release of this limited-edition brew. Mirror Mirror, born of a double batch of Mirror Pond Pale Ale, is an inspired, barrel-aged barley wine layered with intriguing nuances. Explore this latest incarnation and enjoy its delicious complexity in every sip.

Lost abbey: Angels share style: American strong ale 12.5% abv
AROMA: There are so many aspects at work in this beer. We have an initial impression from the oak aging of fortified wine and Port. There is a pleasing vanilla backdrop supported by some great sweet malt notes. TASTE: An incredibly smooth and sweet beer with a long lasting finish. The Bourbon barrel aging of the beer results in a full bodied and luscious texture layered between fruit and malts.

Stone: Barrel Aged Belgique style: Belgian ipa 8.4% abv
This beer is indeed a complex and surprising combination of flavors, but behind the fancy title is simply delicious Stone IPA dressed up in new Belgian duds. The addition of a carefully selected strain of Belgian yeast adds unexpected layers of flavors and aroma, providing a deliciously funky overtone to the hoppy brightness you already know and love as Stone IPA. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.
