EPIC Fall Celebration

Mateel Community Center

The Environmental Protection Information Center announces the Fall Celebration this Friday, November 6th at the Mateel Community Center in Redway. Dine, dance and laugh—a benefit celebration for lasting protection and restoration of northwest California’s forested ecosystems. Featuring music by funk band, Monophonics, dinner byOutlaw Kitchen, award presentation, full bar and silent auction.

Dinner guests are invited at 6:00 p.m. to enjoy specialty cocktails and to share dinner with friends and neighbors prepared by Outlaw Kitchen. The fresh and delicious family-style meal is organic, locally sourced and features a mixed green salad; slow cooked tri-tip, by Painted Hills Natural Grass-fed Beef, OR marinated & grilled tofu; roasted garlic herb mashed potatoes; mustard wild mushroom gravy; grilled lacinato kale and Grandma’s apple crisp with Naked vanilla gelato.

As guests dine, Josephine Johnson will play her sultry folk tunes. Josephine writes and sings music from the heart—think Norah Jones, Stevie Nicks, and Janis Joplin meeting up for an afternoon nip of Southern Comfort. During dessert, the Sempervirens Lifetime Achievement Award for Environmental Activism will be presented to Betty and Gary Ball, co-founders of the Mendocino Environmental Center. Betty Ball, the consummate networker, was integral to the California Forests Forever ballot initiative, Redwood Summer and the campaign to protect the Headwaters Forest.

After dinner, at 8:30 p.m., the dance party will be kicked into high gear with festival favorite, soul-funk band,Monophonics. Raised amid the rich musical culture and history of the San Francisco Bay Area, Monophonics proudly carry the torch through the generations into today’s musical landscape. Holding on to tradition, but by no means purists of any kind, they play their own brand of music known as “Psychedelic Soul.” It’s heartfelt music and old school vibes, without losing sight of the present. This is music steeped in that timeless feeling that gets people up on their feet to get their groove on.

With an elaborate auction featuring original art by Thomas Dunklin, Sierra Martin, Laurel Skye, Augustus Clark, Joan Dunning and Derek DiOrio, and many locally hand-crafted art and wares—a great place for picking up holiday gifts for friends and family.

The Fall Celebration is the Environmental Protection Information Center’s major annual fundraiser. The cost for the entire evening, including dinner and entertainment, is $60 in advance, $75 at the door. In order to provide a high quality dining experience for guests, these tickets are limited and will sell out. Tickets for the 8:30 p.m. entry to the Monophonics concert are $20.
