Eriko Daimo

Eriko Daimo is a new rising marimba soloist, known for her dazzling virtuosity and captivating charisma. She won First Prize at the International Marimba Competition 2004 in Belgium and First Prize at the Japan Percussion Arts Society 20th Annual Percussion Solo Competition for Newcomers 2004.

Other awards include: International Marimba Competition 2003 in Paris (2nd prize), Japan International League of Artists Competition 2003 in Tokyo (2nd prize), South Japan Music Competition in 1999, 2002 and 2003 (1st prize), and All Japan Music Solo Competition in 2000 (1st prize).

Her recent performances include the VI Festival Internacional de Marimbistas 2006 (6th The International Marimba Festival 2006) in Mexico as a faculty member and marimba soloist, the Zeltsman Marimba Festival 2006 in Boston as a showcase artist, the “Baroque to Contemporary” marimba solo recital and masterclass at the Humboldt State University in California, masterclass and performance at the University of Michigan, KOSA International Music Festival in Vermont as a faculty member and marimba soloist, Japan International League of Artists Marimba Festival in Tokyo, “Eriko Daimo Marimba Recital” in Kagoshima and Boston, “Eriko Daimo Marimba Magic” recital in California, and the “Eriko Daimo Showcase Concert” at PASIC in Nashville.

Born in Kagoshima, Japan, Eriko Daimo began her musical studies at age six on the piano. She started studying the marimba when she entered high school in 1997, and went on to study at the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music, and the Boston Conservatory.
