Tuesday Night Poetry Series
Poets Pat McCutcheon
& Vinnie Peloso
I trembled at the pleasures,
trembled at the perils
that lie in wait for one who leaves
the safety of the known world.
Riches from that voyage cling to my skin
like the scent of spices,
sweet as the first taste of orange.
— excerpt from “Passages” by Pat McCutcheon
Poet Pat McCutcheon studied with poets Jane Hirshfield, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Ellen Bass, among others. Her poems appear in journals and anthologies and in her chapbook, Recovering Perfectionist. She is also well known locally as a teacher of creative writing through CR and OLLI.
Poet Vinnie Peloso is a regular participant of the Lost Coast Writers’ Retreat, hosted The Mad River Anthology on KHSU radio, helped coordinate poetry at the Jambalaya and has been a California Poets and Writers “Writer in Residence”. His poems appear in literary magazines and journals. He teaches at CR. Read one of his poems on the Lost Coast Writers Retreat site.
Our Tuesday night poetry series begins with these two poets — inventive, accurate, sometimes devastating and at other times humorous — who will read in their own expressive voices and knock your socks off. See more about all of the poets in the series here.
