Grave Matters and Untimely Departures

Fortuna Sunrise Cemetery

Stories of mystery and intrigue involving PERMANENT citizens of Fortuna! Fortuna, known as the Friendly City, will host a decidedly unfriendly experience on October 25. At the Sunrise Cemetery, which overlooks this historic coastal logging town, accursed souls of all kinds will rise from the dead in the 6th annual Grave Matters & Untimely Departures. Acclaimed regional actors in period clothing will bring dozens of real dead people back to life, hovering around their tombstones and recounting the unfortunate, often scandalous tales that put them underneath. This year features eight new stories, including a 1932 suicide by Lysol, a 1918 flu epidemic victim, and a hunting trip death that may be an unsolved murder. The tours will run from 2 pm to 6 pm. The $15 tickets can be purchased at the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce or the day of the performance at Fortuna’s Newburg Park, where visitors can park and take the cemetery shuttle. Each tour runs approximately 50 minutes and will take place rain or shine. Comfortable shoes are encouraged. Parking at the cemetery. No vehicles are allowed in the cemetery during the performance.
