More about GAUDI…

There’s no easy way to encapsulate GAUDI’s vast body of work. For the past three decades, the innovative producer and solo artist has been shattering genre barriers, pioneering the electronic and dance music worlds, and amassing a stunning collection of originals, remixes, collaborations, and soundtracks spanning the worlds of reggae, dub, breaks, global beat, and cutting-edge psychedelic bass music.

Whether he’s finessing high-profile projects in the studio, or whipping a crowd into a frenzy, the Italian-born UK-based artist places all importance on sonic perfection and providing the best aural experience for his fans. His career has seen the release of 13 solo albums, over a hundred compilations, 250 productions and a number of movie soundtracks. Honoring the traditions of old school dub, every GAUDI performance is unique and unpredictable in the best possible way as he never uses a computer onstage.

A consummate musician and performer, he plays live theremin, MiniMoog, vocoder, tape echoes, electronic percussion, multi-effects, Stylophone and dub sirens, and mixes live dub vocals thru his analogue equipment to maximum effect.

More about Afrolicious

This San Francisco based collective acts like an offspring of Parliament and drums like a Fela Kuti remix, all with their own original club heavy beats and instrumentation. Combining funk grooves with Afro-beat genes, their upbeat compositions rip with tight horns and loose, saucy lyrics- merging sounds and crossing borders.

Moving between tropical and electronic music, this fresh collective has not only toured with Thievery Corporation (a collaboration that led Listen Up Denver to name them Opening Act of the Year in 2012), but also produced two EPs and one LP, “California Dreaming” on their ESL Music label. With musicians who come from backgrounds as diverse as the band’s music, they boast five singers who range from hiphop to soul to Afro-centric pop. Together, they play a light-hearted, but groove-heavy form of soulful funk, powered by bass and keyboards with horns and good-natured vocals floating on top.

The name, “Afrolicious” was inspired by a 2006 weekly dance party at the Elbo Room in SF, where brothers Joe and Oz McGuire first collaborated with producers, DJs and musicians to craft their group’s sound. Fellow members, Freshislife, (one of the lead singers), was originally a star calypso dancer in Trinidad and Tobago while vocalist and percussionist, Baba Duru, was in the original Headhunters. As the cultural exchange is ever intensifying, musical borders are progressively becoming harder to discern between regions, styles and even time periods. Afrolicious is a prime example of this cross-pollination.

More about DJ Marjo Lak

Marjo Lak’s DJ career started in the music festivals of Brazil and is inspired by the collective celebration that is DANCE. Since 2001 she has been at the forefront of the Brazilian electronic music scene- organizing, promoting, and producing parties. As the electronic music culture developed, Marjo and her friends sought out the slippery sounds of bass lines that moved entire dance floors and, in 2005, the DJ collective, Butter Music Brazil, was born.

Now based in Humboldt, this eclectic DJ has expanded her vast collection of sounds, whipping up beautiful and energetic sets both for the dance floor and chill out rooms… a complex walk through popular Brazilian, world, soul, funk, and dub music.
