Nahko and Medicine for the People

Mateel Community Center

Performing at the Mateel Community Center in Redway on Wednesday, December 30th, is Nahko and Medicine for the People! Nahko has been making major waves on the international scene, having debuted in the UK last August directly after the band’s stunning performance at Reggae on the River 2015.

His music, that is both deeply personal in it’s recalling of his life experiences, and spiritually inspirational, carries a message of strength in peace and forgiveness, that is global in its arresting appeal. Proud of his Puerto Rican, Native American, Filipino bloodlines, Nahko considers himself a citizen in service to the planet.

As a teenager who’d become disillusioned by the world around him, he left home in search of adventure and self discovery. As part of that search, he turned his attention to the music of vagabond, Americana musicians and storytellers like Conor Oberst and Bob Dylan. Armed with stories, a guitar, and a fierce set of ideals, he set out to bridge the cultural gaps dividing his own psyche. He began producing a public, musical journal of his journey toward personal, spiritual, and social healing, and thus Medicine for the People was born. He describes his music as a mix of hip-hop and folk rock with a world message. Recently, he discussed his successes, philosophies, music, and life with Huffington Post, who called Nahko’s music “beautiful and stirring.”

Opening the show will be a very special guest, DUSTIN THOMAS, an irresistibly likable young musician who has been making waves of his own from Australia to Moscow with his infectious blend of beat-box/soul folk music. Dustin, with his universal anthems of faith, love and war, is currently touring both as a solo artist and in collaboration with Nahko & Medicine For the People. This is a show you will not want to miss, Wednesday, December 30th at the Mateel Community Center in Redway. Admission is $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Doors open at 7:30. Music at 8.
