The Language of the Wiyot Landscape

Lynnika Butler, Language Program Manager for the Wiyot Tribe will present a talk entitled: “The Language of the Wiyot Landscape” at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center. The Wiyot language is rich in descriptive terms for the native flora and fauna of the Humboldt Bay region. In this talk, Lynnika will introduce some of the linguistic and cultural features of representative Wiyot plant and animal names, native place names, and other features of the local landscape as interpreted through the Wiyot language. Sliding scale $2-$5 donation requested.
