When Kellie Dobbs attended Oaksterdam, that political and financial powerhouse which specializes in teaching students  to produce buds indoors, she came away disappointed.    First, she felt the classes didn’t teach her anything she didn’t already know and, second, she was interested in growing in a more environmentally friendly fashion—outdoors in the sun.  Coming from Humboldt,  she was exposed to some of the best growers and most vibrant marijuana culture around.  Why not start a college here?  So, with help, she did.

Dodds can’t wait for the first classes at 707 Cannabis College to begin. She intends to be there.  “I want to meet everybody personally…I’m just thrilled that we can freely provide education and some classes…”  Hungry to develop an industry that enriches and spins off of the already impressive marijuana culture in the area, Southern Humboldt has welcomed the school almost unanimously.  Dodds says that she is thrilled and “so grateful for the support.”

The first classes have been announced for the September 10th, 11th, and 12th. Friday the 10th will be a seminar on curing and storage tentatively from 4-7pm.  I plan to attend that one to get a feel for the school and to learn more about the industry.  The teacher will be Kevin Jodrey, Cultivation Director of Humboldt Patient Resource Center with a guest appearance by Joey Burger from Trim Scene Solutions who will demonstrate the Single Chamber Vacuum Sealing Machine.  The class is costs $50.   It will be held at  Inner Chi behind the Redwood Times in Garberville.

The Saturday and Sunday workshop will be held from 10-5 in Garberville. The “Foundation Class” as it is called will cost $250.  It will have three teachers. Bruce Briscoe will teach horticulture techniques for outdoor with a small percentage of time devoted to indoor growing. Ellen Komp, Deputy Directory of Cal-NORML will teach about the history, law and politics surrounding cannabis.  Wendy Reed will teach about the health aspects.

UPDATE:  the Friday class will only be two hours long.
