Reflection

Marijuana contains many compounds.  One of which is CBD. Put into simple terms that even I can understand, THC is the high and CBD is the relaxation (this misses nuances but will do for a beginning understanding.) And CBD is one of the major cannabis compounds that is effective against cancer.  Some doctors are now working under the premise that raw CBD’s work better than that which has been cooked or smoked. In addition, THC needs to be heated to be activated so the raw cannabis doesn’t give the user a high.

Recently, there has been a lot of buzz in Humboldt and Mendocino about juicing the raw leaf.  A dispensary in Arcata has given out juicers to some of their patients, provided free raw leaf, and is attempting to analyze the feedback.  They are very excited about the results especially with arthritis.

Dr. William Courtney from Mendocino is in the forefront of this movement (he also sees patients in Garberville and Arcata.) Today’s Washington Post has a long article on him. The piece, among other subjects, discusses the ways that new strains of marijuana have been bred for high THC and have minimized CBD’s.  Just recently, Harborside Dispensary in Oakland reversed the trend and produced a high CBD strain.

I should be interviewing Dr. Courtney soon.  Does anybody have any questions they would like answered?
