– Earlier this afternoon, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors winnowed a list of 17 applicants to the Planning Commission seat down to seven: Dave Edmonds, Glenn Ziemer, Greg Conners, Ann King Smith, Virginia Graziani, Sungnome Madrone and Richard Hansis. Read their applications here.
The final appointment will be made next week.
– Right after that decision, the board voted to punt on an appointment to the North Coast Railroad Authority, following Supervisor Clif Clendenen’s vague statement, early in the meeting, that there may be other candidates looking to throw in.
Supervisors Mark Lovelace and Virginia Bass voted against Clendenen’s motion to postpone matters to June 7, citing the fact that the position has been open for many months and several qualified applicants had stepped forward. But Supervisors Smith and Sundberg deferred to Clendenen, who is currently the county’s sole representative on the NCRA board.
Two additional candidates threw into the NCRA appointment pool since we last published our poll: Harbor District Commissioner Richard Marks and train blogger Lawrence Labranche. Clendenen’s mystery candidate would round things out to a hard six. So let’s renew the poll!
Need some background to inform your decision? Read the applications (minus Labranche’s) here. Also, Jen Rice, Cliff Berkowitz and your Lost Coast Outpost discussed the matter on KHUM’s “Happy Trails” this morning. It should be noted that your correspondent was somewhat in error during this morning’s broadcast; Richard Marks came out way more anti-trail at today’s Supes meeting than I had forecast.
– The LoCO has been gathering its thoughts and reading email for much of the day. There will be a new post relating to the results of our Public Records Act request tomorrow, with more to follow, and once we work out a couple of technicalities all 650-odd emails received through the request will be posted on the website for your perusal. Read yesterday’s post here.
