Mendocino Sheriff’s Dept. Press Release:


   On 8-7-2012, about 2100 hours a deputy made a traffic enforcement stop for a traffic violation that occurred in the 1000 Block of South Main Street in Willits.

   The deputy, and his K-9 partner, contacted the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Following a brief investigation, the deputies K9 partner, trained and certified in drug recognition, alerted on the vehicle. Following a search of the vehicle, the deputy located a bag of marijuana and a marijuana smoking pipe, on the ground, under the vehicle. The deputy also located numerous small bundles of United States Currency which was located inside a backpack in the vehicle.

   The total amount of United States Currency located in this backpack was $62,800.00 in numerous bill denominations.

   The deputy questioned Suspect Jason Anderson [of Santa Cruz] who refused to provide any explanation regarding the marijuana that was located or the large amount of United States Currency inside his vehicle.

   Suspect Jason Anderson was arrested for possessing proceeds acquired from a drug transaction and the monies were seized. Suspect Anderson was transported and booked into the Mendocino County Jail where he was held on $10,000.00 bail.
