On 05-31-2012, approximately 3:00 a.m. the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office received a 911 call from a citizen who reported he was just shot at. The 36 year old male victim, who resides in Hoopa, told the investigating deputy he was parked on Mitchell Hill Road, Weitchpec, in his Toyota pickup truck at 3:00 a.m. when he was shot at. The victim reported a Red Chevy ½ Ton Pickup truck drove slowly by him and beyond his vehicle on Mitchell Hill Road. He recognized the driver as Louis Dale Mitchell as it drove by, who he had been in arguments with in the recent past.

After Mitchell drove past the victim, he parked and got out of the truck carrying a long dark object believed to be a rifle. The victim then heard a gunshot. The victim immediately drove away, while driving away the victim heard four or five more gunshots. The victim drove to a nearby telephone and called 911.

The investigating deputy located several fresh bullet strikes in the victim’s driver’s side door. The victim was uninjured.

The Sheriffs Office is looking for Louis Dale Mitchell, 53 years old a Native American Male, 5’ 5” tall, 150 lbs, black hair, and brown eyes. He is associated with a Red ½ Ton Chevy Pickup Truck, California License 4M06692.

Anyone seeing Mitchell should not approach him and should call 911. He is believed to be armed and dangerous. A be-on-the-lookout has been broadcast to area wide law enforcement. Mitchell is believed to be armed and dangerous.
