From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Wednesday, 11-28-12, at approximately 2:45 p.m. Sheriff’s Office Animal Control was dispatched to meet with a citizen who had located an injured dog wrapped in a blanket lying in the parking lot of the North Jetty. The citizen transported the dog to Arcata where he met with a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Officer. The Animal Control Officer observed the dog to be bleeding from one eye and it appeared to be in severe shock. The Animal Control Officer immediately transported the dog to a veterinary hospital, but it could not be saved.

The dog was an intact male Border Collie McNab mix, black with white markings. It was approximately 3 to 4 months old. An area of the dog’s neck and foreleg had been shaved indicating it may have received some type of veterinary treatment within the past two weeks. Animal Control Officers are checking with all veterinary hospitals to see if the dog was treated locally, and to try and identify an owner.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this as a case of Animal Cruelty and Animal Abandonment. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Animal Control Officer Hale at (707) 445-7251 or call the Sheriff’s Crime tip line at (707)268-2539.
