Humboldt Co. District Attorney Press Release:

On April 8, 2013, Joseph Orozco was convicted by a jury of one count of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child in violation of section 288.5 of the California Penal Code, and two counts of Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Child under 14 in violation of California Penal Code section 288(a). The defendant was the Hoopa Elementary School After-School Program leader at the time of the offense. The offenses took place while the three minors were attending the After-School Program. The case was tried before the Honorable Christopher Wilson. 

On June 7, 2013, the Honorable Christopher Wilson sentenced Joseph Orozco to 10 years in prison for those offenses. In addition to the prison sentence, the Joseph Orozco will be required to register for life as a sex offender under section 290 of the California Penal Code. 

The investigation of the case was a collaborative effort between the Humboldt County Child Welfare Services, the Hoopa Valley Tribal Police, the Humboldt County Child Abuse Services Team (CAST) and the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office. The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Paul V. Gallegos. District Attorney Paul Gallegos expressed gratitude and admiration for the minors who testified, their parents and families, the Hoopa Valley Tribal Police and the Humboldt County Child Welfare Services and the CAST team members.
