A man was stabbed to death in downtown Arcata early yesterday morning, according to Deputy Coroner Roy Horton of the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office.
The assault took place at the corner of 12th and G streets, near Wildberries Supermarket, at around 1:30 yesterday morning. Scanner traffic indicates that fire and ambulance personnel were scrambled to aid the 50-year-old victim, but Horton said that he was later pronounced dead at Mad River Hospital.
According to scanner traffic, a witness told police that the victim was walking home from work at the time he was assaulted.
The Arcata Police Department has yet to issue any information on the crime. The Outpost has confirmed the name of the deceased — an employee of a downtown business — but will withhold it until family can be notified.

UPDATE, 10:57 a.m.: From the Arcata Police Department:
On November 25th, at approximately 0125 hrs, the Arcata Police Department received a report of a man lying in the road near the intersection of 12th and H St.
Upon officers arrival they discovered a white male adult that appeared to have been stabbed. The man was not breathing and the officers began life saving efforts. The man was transported to Mad River Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is on-going and the name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
The Arcata Police Department is requesting anyone who was in the area at that time or has information regarding this incident, call the APD at 822-2428.

UPDATE, WEDNESDAY: The victim was 50-year-old Douglas Anderson-Jordet, kitchen manager at Abruzzi. He was originally from St. Cloud, Minn.
