WeTip has recently been alerted to the fact that WeTip case #559164 has resulted in the arrest and conviction of David Oney Hanna. Hanna and 2 other suspects were involved in the burglary of Landmark Realty in Fortuna. 

According to the arresting officer, “This tip provided [us] with a location of outstanding stolen property from a burglary. We recovered that property without incident, and the tip was instrumental; being that the property was in the possession of a suspect we were not aware of. Absent this tip, we likely would have never recovered this property.” 

The property in question was 2 computers that contained real estate documents containing personal information of clients. Three other computers were seized along with narcotics, ammunition and various other stolen electronic equipment. 

Hanna was arrested September 24, 2011 and convicted just 2 days later. [He was charged] with 3 counts of felony burglary (pc 459 a). And was placed on probation. 

Law enforcement rated this tip a 9 on a scale of 1-10.

Fortuna Press Release from 2011: 

On September 24th, 2011 at about 7:00 am, Officers with the Fortuna Police Department responded to Commercial Burglary that occurred in the 100 Block of 12th Street in Fortuna. During the investigation, it was discovered that suspect(s) forced entry into the business and stole several computers and other related items.

During the course of the investigations, Officers obtained a search warrant for a nearby apartment.
At about 8:30 pm, Officers responded to the Park West Apartments (137 12th Street) and executed the search warrant. As a result of the search warrant, several of the stolen items were recovered.

During the search warrant, officers arrested 21 year old, David Hanna and 20 year old, Chyanne Smith.

Hanna was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charges:
PC §459 – Burglary 
PC §496 – Possession of Stolen Property
PC §12316(b) – Felon in Possession of Ammunition

Smith was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charges:
PC §496 – Possession of Stolen Property
HS §11375 – Possession of Controlled Substance without a Prescription.

“This investigation is still ongoing and we expect more arrests in the near future”, said Detective Tim Dias.
