Humboldt Co. Press Release:

On 09-26-2013, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a burglary interrupted. Deputies responded to the 1900 block of Holly Avenue, McKinleyville where they met with a nine year old girl, her mother and her mother’s boyfriend. Deputies were told the adult couple went for a morning jog leaving the nine year old home alone for a brief period of time. The adult couple left the front door unlocked when they left. When the nine year old was home, she heard a noise in the living room area of the residence and thought the adults had returned from their jog. When she exited her bedroom into the hallway she saw a man standing in the entryway of the home. She had never seen the man before. Upon making eye contact with the man he immediately fled the residence without saying anything. The nine year old girl called her mother’s cellphone and told her what happened. They reported it to the Sheriff’s office and immediately returned home. The mother discovered her purse that had been on the living room couch was missing. The nine year old girl was not injured.

Deputies checked the area but could not find the suspect. The mother immediately cancelled all her credit cards.

The suspect is described as follows: White male adult, approximately 5”7’ tall, clean shaven, wearing a dark brown or black beanie cap which covered his ears, wearing an oversized brown jacket with a hood, camouflaged pants that had ties strings on the bottom cuffs, wearing army type boots and a backpack.
