Fortuna Police Dept. Press Release:

On January 12, 2013 2014 at approximately 12:52 PM, Officers with the Fortuna Police Department responded to a Medical Office located in the 3300 block of Renner Drive for a commercial burglary alarm. Upon arrival officers discovered the suspect (Eugene Hatfield of North Hollywood) was still in the business. Several items from inside the business were found thrown out of an open window.

Additional officers were requested and the Police K9 was also requested to respond. Hatfield had attempted to exit out a window at the southwest corner of the business. Officers gave Hatfield commands and he fled back into the business. Officers then observed Hatfield punch out a screen window on the northwest corner of the building and jumped out onto the ground. Officers attempted to apprehend Hatfield at that location but he was able to get over a barbwire fence into a pasture.

Officers attempted to use the Taser to subdue Hatfield but it was unsuccessful. Officers were able to apprehend Hatfield after a short foot pursuit prior to K9 Zorro arriving on scene.

Hatfield was transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital for medical clearance and then he was transported to Humboldt County Jail where he was booked on the following charges.

P.C. 496- Possession of stolen property
P.C. 148(a)(1) – Resisting arrest
P.C. 594- Vandalism
An outstanding arrest warrant
