Kerrigan shows his optimism in this Facebook photo.
Shortly before learning that there will be a challenger for Ryan Sundberg’s 5th District seat, Chris Kerrigan called us to say that he’s finally decided for realsies to forgo his run for Eureka mayor in favor of a run for the 4th District seat on the county board of supervisors, challenging incumbent Virginia Bass.
Though he filed papers to fundraise for the position last week, Kerrigan has yet to file the official nomination paperwork with the county but said he’d do so before Friday’s deadline.
Kerrigan, who served two consecutive terms on the Eureka City Council starting in 2000 at the tender age of 20, said the county needs to move forward with the general plan update while maintaining environmental protections and quality-of-life considerations such as trail support.
“We need to formulate a general plan that reflects and enhances our quality of life in order to grow our economy,” he said.
