“The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long” — Lao Tzu

On Nov. 25, 2015, the world lost one of its brightest flames when Lizzie Gupton passed from this world and into the next. Lizzie made this world a better place on Jan. 15, 1998, by joining her loving family and beginning her journey on the North Coast.

In the fleeting time she was with us, Lizzie filled every day with love, smiles, warmth and her laughter. From elementary school to junior high and finally at Eureka High School, those of us blessed enough to know her watched as she blossomed from the shy wallflower to the goofy and sarcastic person that made all of us better for knowing her.

In 2012 Lizzie amazed us all by following in the family tradition of theater, appearing in her first true stage play, The Laramie Project. From that point on, it was obvious that no matter if it was on stage or behind the scenes, Lizzie’s flame burned its brightest in the theater.

As a member of YEAH club, Lizzie fought against bullying and discrimination, not just during the annual Day of Silence, but every day in her actions and deeds.

She also, along with her family, took steps to make her community a better place, often donating blood either at the school blood drives or on “blood dates” with her siblings.

Lizzie is remembered in love by her mother, Rebecca Granados-Gupton, her father, Jeffery Gupton, her sister Ashley Arnett and her husband Jesse Arnett, her sister Lillian Gupton and partner Gabriel Butler-Smith, her brother Stephen Gupton, her nieces Kathryn Arnett and Tehya Arnett, and the two souls who loved and annoyed her the most: Jax and Max.

Lizzie is also remembered in love by her grandparents, Alfred and Jackie Granados, her uncle Todd Gupton, aunt Annamarie Gupton, aunt Laura Keenados and husband Ryan Keenados, and an abundance of extended family, friends and loving troublemakers that are proud to have been a part of her life.

There will be two viewings at Sanders Funeral Home — Thursday, Dec. 3 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 4 from 1 p.m to 5 p.m. On Thursday, Ded. 10, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. there will be a Celebration of Lizzie at the Eureka Women’s Club, where the family invites everyone who knew and loved Lizzie to come, tell stories, sing songs, tell jokes and remember the amazing person she was.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to either the Eureka Blood Bank, the Eureka High YEAH Club/German Club/Drama Club, or to a charity of your choice.
