Outpost readers and other news outlets note that a large law enforcement cluster rolled through Weitchpec this morning.

“It’s marijuana eradication season,” Lt. Wayne Hanson with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office told The Outpost when we called seeking confirmation. Hanson said that search warrants were being served at several parcels in the Weitchpec area at least through the remainder of Monday. In addition to HCSO and DTF, he said that California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Campaign Against Marijuana Planting (CAMP) are also involved in the operation. A helicopter is being used to assist efforts.

Hanson said marijuana eradication operations would continue through October. Information about today’s raids will likely be slow in reaching the coast due to the scarcity of cell phone service. We’ll update with more details as it becomes available.
