UPDATE, 7/15: Suspect in Mad River Homicide Identified

UPDATE, 11:13 a.m.: Below is a press release from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office:

On Monday, July 13, 2015 at approximately 4:30pm, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area of Lamb Creek Road in Mad River. Callers stated that two male victims sustained gunshot wounds. One male was airlifted to an area hospital, while the other male was pronounced dead at the scene.

While responding, Trinity County Sheriff Deputies were given additional information that there was an active shooter in the Mad River area. A Sheriff’s Office Deputy encountered a vehicle on State Route 36 in the Forest Glen area. The vehicle appeared to have been involved in a traffic collision.

Upon further investigation, the Deputy at the scene discovered that the vehicle was involved in the active shooter incident in the Mad River area.

At that time the Deputy at scene heard what he believed to be gunfire from the area below the road where the vehicle was located.

The Forest Glen area was searched by a joint task force of Trinity County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and United States Forest Service personnel, while other units warned the public that there was an active shooter in the area.

The suspect is described as having a dark complexion, wearing a black shirt, is 29-30 years old is approximately 5’8” and 160-175 pounds with dark short curly hair and goes by the name of Scotty. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

No other information concerning the victims will be immediately available.

UPDATE, 9:02 a.m.: The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office provided The Trinity Journal with a suspect description:

The suspect is described as having a dark complexion, wearing a black shirt, is 20-30 years old is approximately 5’8” and 160-175 pounds with dark short curly hair and goes by the name of “Scotty.” He should be considered armed and dangerous.

UPDATE, 7:30 a.m.: Trinity County Sheriff’s deputies say the suspect stole a car from the area of the shooting and later crashed the car near Forest Glen in Trinity County, according to a KAEF North Coast News report.

The suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous, then fled on foot and remains at large, according to the report. The second shooting victim has been flown out of the area for treatment, KAEF reports.

Original post: At least one man is dead and another wounded after a shooting in the Trinity County town of Mad River, according to numerous sources.

Details are scarce at this point, but one source, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed to the Outpost that the victim was Steven Line, Sr., of Mad River (pictured at right).

“He has been a part of Trinity County for years,” the source said.

The source also reported that another man suffered a gunshot wound to the back and that the shooter is rumored to be on the run.
