UPDATE, 11:35 a.m.: Humboldt Bay Fire’s Ken Hulbert told the Outpost that he estimates the home involved is about 75 percent destroyed. He said that the department is investigating whether the explosion was caused by a hash lab explosion.

A building is burning on Second Street in Fields Landing at the moment.

Humboldt Bay Fire were called to the scene at about 10:50 a.m. Dispatchers reported that witnesses heard an explosion prior to flames erupting from the rear of building. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a single-story residence on fire, with no one inside.

The Outpost’s Andrew Goff, who is at the scene, has taken photos (below) of the Sheriff’s Office taking people into custody at the scene.
