UPDATE, 7:48 p.m.: Watson tells the Outpost that the Eureka Police Department and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office have been “chasing leads all day” on the two suspects, who were believed to be in Eureka since their vehicle was discovered in the city last night.
He said that Rodney Ortiz had been tracked to the mall and a local market this afternoon, with the help of citizen witnesses, when an observant EPD officer spotted him walking near the corner of West Henderson and Spring at about 6:40 p.m. He was taken into custody at gunpoint.
