UPDATE, from Eureka City Schools:

On Thursday morning, a Eureka City Schools bus transporting students on a field trip from Alice Birney Elementary to Prairie Creek experienced mechanical difficulty. As a precaution, the students were ushered off the bus until another bus arrived. The second bus picked up the students and the field trip resumed without incident.

Listeners calling into KSLG this morning alerted us that kids were being ushered off a school bus on the side of northbound Highway 101 near the Samoa Blvd. exit.

North Coast News reporter Natalie Weber reports via Facebook that the kids were evacuated due to a suspected gas line leak on the bus. The decision was precautionary and no injuries have been reported.
