One for the Eureka Police Department annals, surely.

Brittany Powell, the department’s spokesperson, tells the Outpost that Eureka Police Chief Andy Mills and a detective sergeant were getting lunch at the Co-op at about 1:15 p.m. when they witnessed a car crash in the parking lot. Multiple vehicles were struck, Powell said, and one person was eventually transported to the hospital with a complaint of pain.

Mills and his colleague responded to the accident. Powell said her understanding was that a large quantity of drugs was plainly visible in the responsible car as they investigated the crash. Backup officers and members of the Problem Oriented Policing squad were brought in to assist.

Two men were taken into custody. Officers are still on-scene processing evidence. We’ll update when we know more.
