UPDATE, Saturday: Sergeant Jesse Taylor of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office tells the Outpost that the suspect was taken into custody last night.  Brian Phillip Miller, 45 of Redway, was charged with stolen property, evading a police officer, hit and run, and resisting arrest.

A few minutes ago, Arcata Police received notice of a 1993 Jeep Wrangler stolen out of Eureka.

Almost immediately, according to KHUM’s Bayley Brown, who happened to be near the aftermath of this whole incident, an APD officer noticed the Jeep parked in the Safeway parking lot. A chase toward Sunny Brae ensued, and the stolen Wrangler ended up plowing into a Volkswagen pickup turning west onto Crescent Way from Bayside Road, smashing it up pretty good before continuing to flee.

The driver of the smashed truck was uninjured, Brown tells us.

The car was last seen heading down Old Arcata Road toward Eureka. Officers discontinued pursuit.
