UPDATE, Feb. 23: From the Sheriff’s Office:

The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office received the toxicology report for decedent Hugh Duggins, of Alderpoint. The toxicology report came back clean, with no indication of drugs or alcohol in Duggins’ body at the time of death. The Coroner’s Office is still waiting for the results of the histology report to determine the cause and manner of death.

UPDATE, Jan. 27, 2:40 p.m.: Yet more from the Sheriff’s Office:

The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the body found along Alderpoint Rd on January 21, 2016 as 71 year old Hugh Duggins of Alderpoint, CA. At autopsy, forensic pathology found no evidence of decedent dying from causes criminal in nature. The cause and manner of death are pending toxicology and histology.

The decedent has been positively identified by the Coroner’s Office as a 71 year old Alderpoint resident. His name will be released after next of kin has been notified.

From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Thursday, January 21, 2016 at about 10:15 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible dead body along the 7000 block of Alderpoint Road, Garberville. The reporting party was walking their dog when they noticed the body. The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Coroner’s Office responded. The decedent did not have identification on him and a fingerprint test was conducted to determine identification. It will be 3-10 days before the results are in. The male had been deceased for 24 to 48 hours.

This incident is currently under investigation.
