8:43 a.m.: Last night we lost a core member of our family. For nine joyfull years "FatBoy" has blessed everyone he has met with his distinguished demeanor and his playful spirit. He has been a gentle confidant in each of my daughters lives and I was never at a loss for words when describing our friendship. He was my best friend and a kindred spirit. His favorite places were Moonstone Beach, Pierson Park, Hiller Park and the revolving sunnyspots in his Mckinleyville backyard. Rupert never once was aggressive to another soul, never once. I remember multiple times that he was attacked by another dog only to playfully "box" the attacking dog and eventually pin the other dog down. This was always followed by the aggressive dog becoming his buddy and following him around. I would refer to this as therapy sessions for the aggressive dog. He was simply amazing! Rupert said his final goodbye and passed along to a place where he is now comfortable and free of pain. His battle with cancer was a tough roller-coaster and he handled it with strength and honor.
