Humboldt is Going to Start Doing Holiday Things Now

What!? Tomorrow is December? Why?!? Fine. Ready or not, HumCo, our yearly countdown to Christ’s B-Day has entered the home stretch which means the Lowdown is going to be getting festive right quick.

First up on the holiday calendar: Dell’Arte presents its 35th annual traveling holiday show which, this year, will be Li’l Red in the Redwoods. Dell’Arte promo follows:

The Dell’Arte Company has refashioned the tale of Little Red Riding Hood as we know it, reaching back into the roots of the story first published by Charles Perrault in the 17th century and versions told orally throughout many different countries and cultures from Asia to Africa … From Bluegrass to Balkan, this talented cast of performers also performs an eclectic selection of multicultural music and song to accompany the story of Li’l Red in the Redwoods, making for a truly unique theatrical experience.

One cool aspect about Dell’Arte’s holiday shows is that they stage them in areas not usually accustomed to hosting plays. Another great thing: Most of the performances — like the first out-of-Blue-Lake show tonight at the Van Duzer Theatre — are free. Below are future dates:

  • Nov. 30: Van Duzer Theatre, HSU
  • Dec. 2: McKinleyville High School
  • Dec. 6: Trinidad Elementary School
  • Dec. 7: Mateel Community Center, Redway ($5-10)
  • Dec. 8: Winema Theater, Scotia
  • Dec. 10: Yurok Tribal Headquarters, Klamath
  • Dec. 11: Eureka Theater
  • Dec. 12: Cave Junction
  • Dec. 13: Orick Elementary School
  • Dec. 14: Loleta Elementary School
  • Dec. 17-19: Dell’Arte’s Carlo Theater
