6. The Gardens of Scott and Marilyn Ostrom

Continuing onward, we visited Scott and Marilyn Ostrom’s E Street House. At this particular garden, we were able to flip through a photo album showing the yard as it was when the Ostrom’s purchased their home, over time transitioning to the completely transformed sanctuary it is now. I’ll forever remember this as the “Feeling-Robbed-of-my-Childhood,” Garden (a phrase coined by Jodie).  The Ostrom’s designed the ultimate play-yard for their grandchildren and just visiting made us feel like we had missed out on something wonderful growing up.

I mean, c’mon … rock wall, tire swing, slides, you name it. This play station was the fort of all forts, and even had flowering planters, and bejeweled CDs on the rope fencing!

We loved how this yard was perfectly set up for entertaining. There were conversation alcoves throughout the yard: a campfire space, adirondak lounging stations, a fountain and a deck. While the deck provides a place for groups to gather around the barbecue, the smaller alcoves create opportunities for guests to wander off in smaller groups for conversation throughout the yard, generating a great flow of guest movement for any event.

Statues and sculptures were stationed throughout the garden. I especially loved the creative penny sculpture.

The Ostroms also had the perfect rose!
