Ballot Statement

As a lifelong community member and resident of Eureka, I’ve been asked many times why I want to run for Eureka City Council.

Here is a brief review of my reasons. I want change! I want more business zoning areas. We should be encouraging the growth of Old Town Eureka. It is such a beautiful place with so many economic opportunities. As a past code enforcement officer, I learned that many of our zoning codes limit the prosperity of our city. The style of Old Town is also something I want to expand upon. As a local artist, I believe crowds will come where something is visually appealing to the eye. Let’s encourage beautifying the city!

I want to help reduce the drug and homeless issues. Let’s have road crews that clean the streets and give people an easy opportunity to get on their feet. Let’s strengthen our youth programs as this is where this problem starts. Without an opportunity to succeed, many teens fall into drug abuse.

I want to invest in infrastructure. Not too pleased with your water bill going up? That’s partly because past Eureka City Council members did not upkeep necessary equipment to provide the city with what it needs. I want to make sure the people of Eureka do not have to pay for the consequences of politicians that mismanage the budget.

I want to fix our roads. This is a huge problem in our city. So many of us are dodging potholes on heavily used streets. It’s unacceptable that our roads take away the attention of Eureka’s beauty.

I want to bring in more tourism! This will help our economy greatly. The Redwood Coast has recently been voted the top destination to visit by Lonely Planet (Popular travel magazine), and we need to start showing our beautiful city to the rest of the world.

Lastly, but most importantly, I’d like to see Eureka become more eco friendly. Let’s plant more trees and use more renewable energy. I want future generations of people to be able to enjoy Eureka without further damaging the environment or wildlife around us.
