Ballot Statement

What will Eureka be like in 5, 10, 20 years? As our nation and state experience rapid political, social and economic change, this question drives me to think and act locally with long-term vision. I came to Humboldt County as a national service member, became deeply involved in volunteerism, found rewarding work as a planner and Coast Guard Reserve member, bought my first home in Eureka, ran for City Council, and put down roots with my fiancé, knowing this is a place worth investing in. I love this city, and I need your support to keep the momentum Eureka has gained.

I have served on the Council and worked with the City of Eureka’s team for 4 years, and know we have incredible opportunities right now. We have taken decisive steps to be more business-friendly, improve the quality and quantity of housing, beautify commercial districts, build trails that support people’s health, and support the arts. I am proud that Eureka has robust, meaningful, fact-driven plans to bolster our economy, infrastructure, environment and community over the coming years, along with a motivated team who can do the job. I will provide follow-through to build out these blueprints, working to bring Eureka up to speed with the most innovative, thriving communities on the West Coast.

In the next 4 years, I am eager and ready to do three key things: (1) continue to strengthen and diversify Eureka’s economy; (2) make positive changes to public infrastructure that support a high quality of life for residents; and (3) be fair, kind and courageous in making decisions that are good for Eureka in the long term. I will act upon opportunities in these three key areas to support growth of manufacturing and medical-sector jobs, streamline infill development to add much-needed housing, tackle traffic and pedestrian safety challenges, improve roadways and public facilities, and create new and improved partnerships with local organizations and the County of Humboldt to get things done on a regional level.

A vote for me is a vote for forward-thinking, balanced, research-based policies that work for people. It is also a vote for my breadth of experience and values. I demonstrate kindness, a strong backbone, and willingness to make tough decisions. I look forward to shaping the Eureka that we will live in 20 years from now. I respectfully ask for your vote to serve as your 3rd Ward City Councilmember.
