Ballot Statement

Seventeen years ago I came to the North Coast to live in Eureka. I came to love the independence, resilience, and strength of our residents and to respect the potential of our city. While there is much to enjoy and value in this special part of the world, it is evident that Eureka suffers from an increase in crime—a reality of our shared life that prevents Eureka from being the energized, healthy city that we want it to be and that it can be.

My vision for Eureka begins with making public safety a priority. I am honored to be endorsed by Eureka Mayor Frank Jager, former Eureka City Councilmember Melinda Ciarabellini, Sheriff William Honsal, former Eureka Police Chief Andrew Mills, former Humboldt Bay Fire Chief Bill Gillespie and many community leaders, business owners and Eureka citizens who share my concerns and support my candidacy.

Public safety and economic growth are built through sustained effort supported by elected officials committed to improve life in Eureka.

As a concerned citizen I organized a Neighborhood Watch group in my neighborhood. As a volunteer I work closely with the Eureka Police Department. I encourage others to establish Neighborhood Watch groups to improve community safety and security. I promote, organize and raise funds for public safety events. I am a member of the Eureka Police Department’s and City of Eureka’s Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Team and the Humboldt Bay Fire Community Emergency Response Team. And I am a tireless advocate for Eureka through media platforms that tell the world about our city.

As your Councilmember I will support:

  • The Eureka Police Department’s community-oriented policing policy and its enforcement of existing laws to improve the quality of life for Eurekans;
  • Developing a collaborative working relationship with local, regional and state agencies to find solutions to homelessness, poverty, crime, substance abuse, and needle litter in our city;
  • Investing in our future through revitalization, economic development, tourism and marketing opportunities;
  • Improving our infrastructure—our roads, water and sewer facilities, and buildings;
  • Completing and maintaining our trail system.

Change is possible when we work together toward a common goal: a safe, prosperous and vibrant Eureka. Providing the leadership to make this change is a critical responsibility and one that I am eager to accept as the Third Ward representative on the Eureka City Council. Thank you for your support.
